The Beginner's Guide to Home Yoga Practice

The best thing about Yoga is that you don’t need a fancy studio or a special space to do it, you can do it in the comfort of your own home.
How many ancient practices stood the test of time and stayed with us over centuries? There aren’t too many, but yoga is amongst them. If you’re under too much stress, you’ll often get an advice to start doing yoga. The same goes if you’re looking for a way to get in shape, become more flexible, and do something good for yourself – yoga is as great for your body as it is for your mind. The best thing about it – you don’t need a fancy studio or a special space to do it; you can do it in the comfort of your own home.
Light it up
There should be plenty of natural light in your home, or at least in the room where you intend to practice yoga. Move the curtains aside and let the sunshine in, it will do you good, especially if you prefer morning yoga. You don’t need more than fifteen minutes each morning, and it will leave you feeling energized and refreshed. If you don’t have enough natural light, you should light up scented candles and place a lamp or two in different corners in the room so that you get soft light which will allow you to relax. Find some interesting diy lighting projects which will create peaceful and comfortable surrounding. You can always improve your room lighting by adding more options and make your room ready for meditation and living.
Keep it neat and tidy
The room where you do yoga should be neat and clutter-free; it should also be small and private, because you won’t be able to relax if you worry about your roommates or family members stumbling over you. As the time passes, you should feel more and more comfortable in that room, since you will associate it with the peace that regular practice brings. Get woven belly baskets for keeping books, magazines, and plants away from the floor and coffee tables. Make sure the room is tidy, clean, and well-ventilated, and keep away from the sharp corners of your furniture.
Don’t push it
As a beginner, you won’t be able to do the same thing yoga instructors in videos or yoga studios do. Set yourself a sequence and stick to it – by repeatedly practicing the same poses, you will be able to watch yourself grow stronger and more flexible every day. What is more, if you don’t have to think about what pose you want to do next, you will be able to stay focused on your breath and the movement of your body. Repetition will also help you keep your inner peace and get to that meditative state of tranquility.
Make yourself comfortable
While it’s incredibly important to make sure you do the moves the right way and not push yourself too soon, it’s equally important to get the right equipment. Always wear comfortable clothes which allow you to move your body freely, and invest in good yoga mats because they will keep your joints healthy. Soft blankets and comfortable pillows are also good to have, especially if you’ve never done any yoga before and you’re just beginning. You can also listen to soft instrumental music which can help you relax, just make sure it isn’t too loud.
Yoga is not only old – it’s ancient! It originated thousands of years ago in India, and it can help you achieve a more positive outlook on life. If you practice it with determination and dedicate a lot of time to it, you will be able to achieve a permanent sense of peace and serenity. You don’t have to focus so much on spirituality if that aspect of yoga is not appealing to you; you can choose to focus just on the physical aspect of it and see it as a way to get back in shape and get more comfortable in your own body.
